Airport Coach Operator Shortlisted For Top Award

02 Oct 2009

One of Stansted Airport's successful coach operators has been nominated for a prestigious national transport industry award.

Airport by Coach, a partnership between the airport and Exel Passenger Logistics, is shortlisted for the Coach Operator Innovation of the Year at the routeONE Operator Excellence Awards.

Stansted Airport's Public Transport Manager, Steve Mills, said: "Airport by Coach has been a huge success since starting services at Stansted in 2008 and this nomination recognises all the hard work the company has put in developing its network throughout the region. I really hope they can now go on to win the award as I feel their achievements over the past year are deserving of acclaim and acknowledgement."

"Around 46% of passengers arrive and depart from Stansted using public transport which is a UK leading position and one of the highest figures in Europe. This is largely due to the innovation, forward thinking and determination of BAA Stansted and operators such as Airport by Coach to provide a great level of service to all our customers."

The winner will be announced at a ceremony at the National Motorcycle Museum later this month. Compère for the evening is the well-known and highly respected BBC sports commentator and anchorman John Inverdale.

Airport by Coach began operating in May 2008, linking Ipswich with Stansted. A further two services have now been introduced connecting Grays, Basildon and Brentwood to Stansted and Colchester to Stansted.

All services operate every two hours, 24 hours a day, 364 days of the year, with Wi-Fi access and fully reclining seats and generous legroom on board. A unique feature on the website – www.airportbycoach.com – allows passengers to book a taxi to pick them up at home and deliver them to the bus station.
