Attending a launch event at Liverpool Street Station, Nick Barton, Stansted Airport's Managing Director, said the new franchise was good news for airport passengers, adding:
"We're absolutely delighted to welcome Greater Anglia to Stansted Airport and we look forward to working with them to offer passengers an excellent service. With new trains leaving every 15 minutes to and from central London, the Stansted Express offers an excellent connection to the capital.
"With a number of high profile global events taking place during 2012, the Stansted Express will play a key role in giving our passengers an excellent first impression of both Stansted Airport and the UK as a whole."
Stansted is the UK's No 1 major airport for public transport use by passengers, with nearly 48% choosing train, coach or bus to get to and from the airport. In May last year a fleet of state-of-the-art trains began operating on the Stansted Airport service - the newest rolling stock serving any UK airport.
Ruud Haket, Managing Director of Greater Anglia, said: "With the new trains serving the airport we are confident that we can offer a comfortable, fast and reliable route for customers travelling to and from Stansted.
"Customer service will be the focus for us all and we have started to progress new ticket purchase routes, an upgraded first class ticket offer including newspapers and beverages which we will launch in May. I urge customers to visit our website www.stanstedexpress.com to find out more about our services."
Greater Anglia, whose parent company Abellio Group operate public transport services across Europe, began running on Sunday, February 5, 2012. The franchise will operate for 29 months between February 2012 to mid-2014.
To complement the introduction of the franchise and to increase rail capacity at Stansted, work has recently been completed to lengthen platforms at the airport's railway station to allow for the operation of 12 car trains as rail demand grows in the future.
