Airport Welcomes New Stansted Express Operator

25 Oct 2011

London Stansted Airport has welcomed the news that Dutch rail operator Abellio has been successful in winning the franchise to operate the Stansted Express service.

Steve Mills, Public Transport Manager at Stansted Airport, said the announcement was good news for airport passengers.

He said: “We welcome today’s announcement that Abellio has been successful in winning the franchise to operate the Stansted Express service from February 2012 to mid-2014.

“We will be working with them to deliver an excellent rail service to and from Stansted – which now uses the newest rolling stock serving any UK airport. We would like to express our thanks to National Express East Anglia who have operated the service since 2004.”

London Stansted is the UK’s No1 major airport for public transport use by passengers, with nearly 45% choosing train, coach or bus to get to and from the airport.
