The school made an application to the airport fund as it seeks to replace its old desktop computers with modern laptops. The much needed laptops will allow pupils to use them in their own classrooms, and enable the school to convert its computer room into a new school library to replace the existing small library which it has now outgrown.
Shirley Warbrick, Head teacher of Birchanger C of E Primary School, said: “School funding for computer hardware has been cut by 80% so we are particularly grateful for the donation of £1000 from the Stansted Community Fund. Having access to a netbook when children need one will have a real impact on learning.”
Marcella M’Rabety, Stansted Airport’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, said: “Birchanger School is one of the airports’ closest neighbours so we’re delighted the Stansted Community Fund is able to make this contribution which will benefit both the pupils and staff at the school.
“We are all aware these are very difficult economic times, and that the aviation sector continues to be affected by the downturn, so we particularly pleased to be able to support this project and continue to demonstrate the strength of our commitment to the local communities surrounding the airport.”
The Stansted Community Fund supports youth, environmental and volunteering projects within a 40-mile radius of the airport and specifically supports projects linked to schools and education.
