Stansted Meet the Buyers, supported by BAA and organised by Essex Chambers of Commerce, creates a platform for businesses to meet and discuss potential new sales opportunities with companies based at, or in close proximity to, Stansted Airport.
Over 200 appointments took place at the event held at Down Hall, Country Hotel. The day also included a series of business seminars and exhibitions, a procurement workshop and networking lunch, and closed with an economic briefing.
Opening the event was BAA Stansted's commercial and development director, Nick Barton, who said:
"At a time when many people are concerned about the economy, Meet the Buyers gives companies the chance to generate new business opportunities. Business is at the heart of our work at Stansted and we've been working very hard to ensure that Stansted Meet the Buyer's continues to strike the right balance and allows businesses to make the most of the opportunities that the event provides.
"Today's event is an important one on everyone's calendar as it brings together many leading small, medium and large companies who want to work together and, in this spirit of togetherness, ensures our region and its economy remains strong."
Attending today's event was Richard Elmer from Chelmsford based Golder Associates, a company specialising in ground engineering and environmental services, who said:
"What a great event this is - we've already made some very positive contacts for business both in the UK and overseas."
As a curtain raiser, more than 140 of the regions top business and community representatives attended a gala dinner on Monday evening. Guest speakers included BAA Stansted's managing director, Stewart Wingate, and broadcaster and former MP, Gyles Brandreth.
Denise Rossiter, Essex Chamber of Commerce operations director, said:
"We are delighted and extremely proud to be working alongside BAA Stansted on the annual Meet the Buyers event. The primary objective of the event is to instigate new business opportunities for companies that attend, and as a Chamber of Commerce, this has been part of our constitution for over 100 years. This is one of the largest procurement events in the South East attracting businesses from right across the Eastern Region - we hope it remains as important to companies as it does to us."
