Airport by Coach, a partnership between BAA Stansted and Excel Coaches, will offer direct services every two hours, 24 hours a day between the UK’s third busiest airport and Basildon, Brentwood, Grays and Ongar.
Steve Mills, BAA Stansted's public transport development manager, said:
“More than 46 per cent air passengers currently travel to the airport by public transport – that’s the highest figure for any major airport in the UK, and one of the best in Europe. The popularity of bus and coach services at Stansted continues to grow with over 630 scheduled departures every day to over 55 destinations around the UK.
“Airport by Coach is the first direct link between Stansted Airport and Basildon. With a 90 minute journey time passengers and staff will find the service extremely convenient and an excellent alternative to their car.”
A fleet of stylish, wheelchair accessible coaches will serve the route. Each vehicle is equipped free with Wi-Fi access, air conditioning, a DVD information screen, fully reclining seats and generous leg room. To make their journey as seamless as possible, passengers can also take advantage of a taxi add-on service that connects them from their home to the relevant bus stop.
John Pope, Essex County Council’s head of passenger transport, added:
“In recent years we have seen that travellers are choosing to make their journeys to the airport by bus and coach and the industry and local authorities have responded by improving both service frequency and the range of destinations. It is important that we continue to provide high quality routes like the Basildon link to meet this demand as bus and coach services play an important part in Stansted’s wider surface access strategy.”
Graham Hayden, managing director of Excel coaches, said:
“We’re delighted to be adding the Basildon service to our already successful route network. Advance bookings show this is set to be very popular and this connection will be an important link for passengers and staff living in this part of south Essex.”
The new service begins on Friday, 1 May, with a journey time to Basildon of 90 minutes. Return adult fares from Ongar start at £8, Brentwood – Stansted from £15, Basildon – Stansted from £21 and Grays – Stansted from £25. Book online for the lowest prices www.airportbycoach.com.
