Stansted's Community Success Toasted At Top Awards Ceremony

16 Jun 2009

Stansted Airport, the region’s biggest single site employer, has been honoured in recognition of its innovative community work in helping young people into employment and skills training by Business in the Community (BITC).

The airport won a highly commended award in the Most Innovative New Programme category for its ‘Stansted Insight Programme’ at the BITC East of England Awards for Excellence 2009. The honour was presented at a Gala Dinner held at Audley End House, near Saffron Walden.

Accepting the award on behalf of BAA Stansted, Ashley Riley, the airport’s Head of Communications & Public Affairs, said:

“It is a great honour to receive this award on behalf of so many hard working people at Stansted. We are passionate about giving young people the opportunity to work at Stansted, and to help develop their skills and expertise, and this award recognises the real positive difference the airport is making in the local community.

“A lot of time and effort, especially from our friends at the Harlow Education and Employer Partnership (HEEP) went into delivering the programme, and to be highly commended by such an important group as BITC is very humbling indeed.”

The work experience scheme, sponsored by BAA and HEEP gave young people from schools in Harlow a unique opportunity to taste working life at the airport and gain an insight of the various roles undertaken across a wide range of employers at Stansted.

The BITC Awards for Excellence are the UK’s most influential awards recognising leadership and innovation in responsible business best practice.
