Stansted Airport’s Passenger Security Advice For Christmas Travel

08 Dec 2009

To help ensure flying from Stansted remains a jolly experience over the festive season, and to avoid any unnecessary delays and disappointments,  the airport is today setting out its "12 Yeas and Nays of Xmas" to make sure there are no unexpected surprises for the hundreds of thousands of passengers who will fly from Stansted over the Christmas period.

  1. Don’t forget to print off your boarding card and ensure you bring it with you if you have already checked in on-line.
  2. The best way to prepare for your journey through the airport is to always check www.stanstedairport.com/security for the latest and most up-to-date security advice before you leave home.
  3. Remember there are still restrictions on liquids, and ensure you only have one piece of hand luggage per person.
  4. Any liquids in hand luggage must be in individual containers no greater than 100ml capacity and placed in a transparent re-sealable bag, no larger than 20cm x 20cm (8” x 8”) in size.
  5. Allow plenty of time for your journey to the airport, and arrive at least two hours before the flight departs.
  6. Pack all sharp objects in your hold luggage only – sharp objects are liable to confiscation if carried in hand luggage.
  7. Check with your airline website for the latest information about your flight.
  8. Once you have checked in – go straight to security.
  9. Pack as much as possible (including presents), and anything you don’t need for your flight, into checked-in baggage and make sure you’re within the weight allowances set by the airline you are travelling with.
  10. Do not wrap presents you wish to carry in your hand luggage as they may need to be inspected at security.
  11. Do not carry Christmas crackers – they are NOT PERMITTED in hand or checked-in luggage. The crackers often contain prohibited items that may not be taken airside.
  12. If you’re using public transport over the festive period, check with the operator before you travel for any timetable changes.

Finally, staff at Stansted wish all our passengers a very Merry Xmas and a happy 2010!
