In December 2013, Stansted launched a mentoring programme, working in conjunction with 'Forest Hall School' in Stansted Mountfitchet. Eleven students studying at the school were identified as individuals who would benefit from mentoring support, as they completed their GCSE year of study and made important decisions regarding their future.
Eleven senior leaders have mentored these students through fortnightly meetings, discussing topics such as approaches to revision and exams, how to balance studies with a life outside of school, and help in considering their next steps after GCSEs. The programme continues and is now also active at Stewards Academy, Harlow.
“It has been a huge privilege to be working with pupils from one of our local schools in this mentoring programme. This is my second year of involvement and the enthusiasm and engagement of the pupils has been a delight. Year 11 is a real challenge for them and I hope that mine and my colleagues’ involvement will have a positive effect on their exam performance.”
