Take a look at our selection of holidays to Antalya and discover why Atatürk, the founder of Turkey, described the area as the ‘most beautiful place on earth’. The city’s holiday conditions are ideal thanks to the long sandy beach, gorgeous weather and inviting waters that complement a lovely old quarter. Antalya has a long history, influenced around 150 BC before prospering under Roman rule and then again in the 21st century when the tourist industry started to really boom. Interesting landmarks that point to the city’s ancient past include the 13th century Yivli Minare Mosque, 16th century Murat Paşa Mosque and Hadrian’s Gate, which was built to honour the visit of the Roman emperor. There are some excellent museums in the area including one of Turkey’s largest, the Antalya Museum in Konyaaltı. Atatürk's House Museum is much smaller yet still intriguing, while Side is a classical Greek settlement that is located outside of the city and known as one of the most important ancient sites in Turkey. It’s possible to visit the Roman remains of Perge and Aspendos on a single day trip, with the latter spot featuring a fabulously intact amphitheatre. Head to Konyaalti beach for long and lazy days in the sun, and take a boat trip over to the Düden Waterfalls that plunge into the ocean from a clifftop. Sail the seas on a stylish yacht or take a more low-key cruise that will let you enjoy plenty of snorkeling and swimming. The inland village of Beskonak offers faster-paced fun with its white water rafting, while 4x4 safaris can also be great for thrill seekers. Seek out the charms of the local area, meander along the streets of the old quarter and delve into the delights of Turkish cuisine with holidays to Antalya from Stansted Airport.
