It’s advisable to be diligent when comparing flights from Stansted to Stockholm, as the Swedish capital is served by a number of airports; but Arlanda Airport is most convenient for reaching the city centre. Services to Skavsta Airport can be cheaper, but the journey to Stockholm is much longer than from the Arlanda airport.
In order to land at Arlanda, you’ll probably need to take a connecting service when you fly London to Stockholm. A short stopover in Gothenburg will see a total journey time of around four hours, which is likely to be reduced on the return leg.
Arlanda Airport is still 23 miles north of the city centre, but with the Arlanda Express high-speed train, the journey to Stockholm’s Central Station takes only 20 minutes. Tickets can be purchased from the information desks within the airport, or at the machines located next to the escalators and lifts, which lead to the train station from each terminal.
The Air Shuttle bus service takes around 35 minutes to reach the central City Terminal Bus Station, and there are departures every 20 minutes from Terminals 2, 4 and 5. Tickets are available from information points, machines, the Air Shuttle website or directly from the driver.
Authorised eco-taxis can be found outside each terminal, with metered and fixed price options available. Those in need of a rental car can select from hire companies Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, National and Sixt.
