Immerse yourself in the culture of Provence in this historic and characterful city with holidays to Toulon. An important seaport, there’s plenty of great sights and culture to experience with holidays to Toulon. The city’s old town area lies between the port, the Boulevard de Strasbourg and the Cours Lafayette. Here you'll find Toulon Cathedral and an array of tight streets that lead into little squares with pretty fountains. It’s also where you'll find the Provençal market that’s held every morning except for Mondays on the Cours Lafayette. Toulon’s harbour is one of the largest in Europe, having grown from humble origins at the end of the 16th century. Wander along the promenade, have a look at the old wooden boats that sit alongside the more modern vessels, and browse the souvenir shops before settling down for a drink or meal with gorgeous views over the harbour. The newer part of town, or Haute ville, is north of the historical centre and where you'll find the Place de la liberté. If you’re there in summer it’s nice to sit by the fountain and statue, while in winter there’s an ice skating rink that complements the lovely Christmas markets. Just south of the Mourillon quarter you'll find some nice beaches to relax on, and there’s a cable car that can take you up Mont-Faron Hill. Here you can visit the Memorial Museum to the landings in Provence, while other museums include the Museum of the French Navy, the Museum of Old Toulon and its Region, and the Museum of Art.
