Heathrow is the UK’s only hub airport and an important economic asset. But today Heathrow is full and vulnerable to foreign competition.
Finding your way

The design of Heathrow Terminal 5 means that although the building is large, walking distances for passengers are surprisingly short.
Departing passengers cross the building in one direction and arriving passengers make the journey in reverse.
Simple wayfinding has been built into the design from the outset, and passengers' needs - whether they're on business or with a family - have been considered in detail.
Signs in key areas have been rationalised to avoid information overload and large beacons have been introduced to act as navigational landmarks.
The signs use international symbols and in key areas, such as Flight Connections, screens display information in a number of languages. The screens can be programmed to deliver specific messages appropriate to particular arriving flights.
Bridges along the length of the arrivals area are colour coded for to aid navigation. From south to north, the colours are red, orange, green, blue (for the rail station) and purple.
