Supporting thousands of jobs

Heathrow directly employs 70,000 people and supports over 100,000 further jobs right across the UK. It is the biggest single-site employer in the UK.

Nearly half of Heathrow’s employees come from the five boroughs directly surrounding the airport – Ealing, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Slough and Spelthorne. One in every 15 people in employment in these five areas works at Heathrow.

Airport jobs are vital to the health of the local community. Each of the five boroughs has lower than the average London unemployment rate and in some areas, the airport is the key economic driver – for example, one in every ten people in employment in Hounslow works at Heathrow.
