Discover New York
Possibly the world's most exciting city, New York is Heathrow's most popular destination – and it's now easier to reach than ever, with new flights to JFK and Newark.
Stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge, admire the view from the Empire State Building or find a moment's peace in Central Park ... sometimes it's hard to escape the feeling that you're exploring a real-life movie set. Every street corner seems somehow familiar.
The world's best shopping is here, from the smart stores of Madison to SoHo's bohemian boutiques, and great rates on the dollar mean you can find amazing bargains right now.
Sample New York's legendary nightlife, from neighbourhood bars to live music joints to ultra-hip clubs. Take in a Broadway musical or spend a night at the opera. Soak up the atmosphere in Chinatown or Greenwich Village. You could spend weeks here and still see only a fraction of what's on offer.
And if the thrills of the big city get just too much, you could always wind down with an out-of-city excursion.
Try the amusements of Coney Island or the white sand beaches of Long Island (where you'll also find the exclusive mansions of The Hamptons).

Discover Texas
Physically and culturally, the Lone Star state is a world away from brash New York. But for British visitors it's now more accessible than ever with new flights from Heathrow to Dallas and Houston. And whether you're visiting for business or pleasure, there's plenty to divert you in Texas.
Visitors to Houston shouldn't miss the Johnson Space Centre, where Gemini and Apollo capsules are on show alongside astronaut memorabilia. The city itself, though the fourth-largest in the US, feels surprisingly open, and regeneration in downtown Houston has created a thriving entertainment district.
Dallas, meanwhile, offers an ultra-modern high-rise cityscape (best viewed from the Reunion Tower) and the famous grassy knoll where John F Kennedy was assassinated – visit the nearby museum and decide for yourself whether the conspiracy theorists are right.
Texas embodies the spirit of the Wild West and if you fancy becoming a cowboy, try a working ranch holiday in the hill country near San Antonio.
But the state's vast countryside is more varied than Hollywood would have you believe, from the desert gorges of Big Bend National Park to the eastern swamp forests and tropical Gulf Coast. That means no end of opportunities for hiking, fishing or watersports.
