Community Support
BAA Stansted supports its local community through a wide range of initiatives including:
Schools
BOSS Days (Business Opportunities Skills Seminars), Interview Technique Days, Teacher Training Days, Briefings and Presentations.
Airport Skills Training Programme
Investment in the development of a scheme to open access to jobs at the airport and elsewhere in the community for unemployed people. We are working with partners and in North London to share job opportunities as widely as possible.
Sports Co-ordinators
In partnership with Harlow Education Consortium, we sponsored a project to establish School Sports Co-ordinators in Harlow Schools to encourage youth participation in sport.
Employee Volunteering
BAA recognises employee volunteering through its annual awards scheme which was launched in January 2005.
We support staff in their volunteering activities by providing paid leave up to 6 days.
Business Awards
BAA Stansted encourages business excellence through sponsorship of business awards in the local area.
Meet the Buyer
BAA Stansted facilitates Meet the Buyer events which enable local suppliers to bid for contracts with airport companies. In addition, we are supporting information events for local suppliers on understanding the supply chain.
Public Transport
BAA Stansted invests in local public transport through its levy on passenger and staff car parking.
Charities
Last year we supported 55 organisations through our Charitable Donations Funds. Our nominated charity is the Burned Children's Club that our airport fire service (red watch) has adopted. Earlier this year Leading Fire-fighter Dave Webster collected an ‘I Volunteer award’ for his services to this group.
Last year a new trust fund was launched the Stansted Community Trust Fund. This fund has 100k per annum to facilitate local community requests.
BAA has it’s own charity, the BAA Communities Trust, however due to the level of requests and current market situations funding from the trust has already been allocated for 2006/07.
The Stansted Airport Charity, which is managed by staff, distributes funds from foreign coin collections at the airport. This charity fund helps local individuals and organisations within a 20-mile radius of the airport.
