Economic Impact Report (EIR) – published 3rd November 2008

What is the EIR?
The document sets out the findings of detailed research that assesses the impact of the G2 Airport Project, and of the projects to provide airport road access from the M11 and A120 (the G2 Junctions Project) and the second rail tunnel to, and a fourth platform at, Stansted Airport Railway Station (the G2 Rail Project).

The purpose of the EIR is to ensure that the economic impact of the projects are fully assessed before a decision is taken on whether or not to grant planning permission.

Where can I see a copy?
The EIR is available below and can be viewed online, or downloaded to your own PC.

A brief history of the EIR
Government regulations now require the preparation of an EIR when a planning application is deemed by the Secretary of State to relate to a Major Infrastructure Project – of which the G2 Project is one.

The guidance says that the EIR should be prepared as part of a process of community consultation. In this case, the process has involved:

• Publication of a consultation document on 23rd May 2008 which set out the proposed scope of the EIR, including the recommended approach to the preparation of the document. Comments were invited by 31st July 2008.

• All responses were reviewed and carefully considered. A report on the consultation process will be published separately, and when available will be published on this website.

• EIR published 3rd November 2008. Representations invited (see above).
