Guide to writing a letter
If you are writing a letter or email please state that you are writing about the Stansted G2 application for a second runway.
'What should I write?'
You do not have to write a lot - you can just say:
“I support the Stansted G2 planning application for a second runway”
Include your name and a contact detail
However, in order to validate your support, you must include your name and a contact detail - this could be:
- your full address;
- or your phone number;
- or just your postcode;
- or your email address.
Suggestions for a longer letter
If you want to write a longer letter here are some suggestions on how to do it:
First paragraph - state your support
Say that you support the second runway application.
Second paragraph - reasons for your personal support
You might want to give other reasons why you think it is important for the airport to grow – more airlines, more destinations, not having to travel round the M25 to an airport, etc. Say what you honestly believe.
Third paragraph - wider benefits of expansion
You might want to mention some of the regional and economic benefits such as:
- The East of England is one of the largest regions in the UK with the fastest growing population – Stansted is its gateway to the world;
- over 13,000 new jobs by 2030;
- £billions of benefits for the economy;
- Investment in road and rail improvements, building on our UK leading position for the use of public transport to and from the airport;
- More opportunities for local and regional business to exploit – for local and regional suppliers, currently worth over £12m in the last 5 years alone;
- Reinforcing our position as the UKs second airport for international business travel;
- Environmental impacts radically reduced. Land take cut by nearly half.
Who should I write to?
Letters and emails should go to the Planning Inspectorate in Bristol. Full details.
