Why your support is needed
'What would I be supporting?'
Stansted's planning application for a second runway, submitted to the local district council (Uttlesford) in March 2008 and due to go to a public inquiry in 2009.
'The second runway is already decided, isn’t it?'
No – an independent public inquiry in 2009 will decide whether it goes ahead or not.
'If the second runway does not get the go-ahead, Stansted will just stay as it is today, won’t it?'
No – if Stansted cannot grow new airlines and routes will not be delivered and existing airlines may go elsewhere, businesses may not grow and jobs may be lost.
No-one should be complacent about the success of a second runway at Stansted – it is not a foregone conclusion. If you support a two-runway Stansted you must make your voice heard loud and clear now, to show that support for the project is greater than just a 'silent majority' and ensure the benefits to the wider region - and the UK as a whole - are not lost.
You can make a difference – please invite friends and colleagues too in doing something about it.
