Arrivals maps
Stansted Airport has launched two new maps to show where planes fly on their arrival into the airport.
The Stansted noise management team have been busily working on new ways to keep the local community better informed about noise around the airport. These maps are part of this important work. They will help people get a feel for the typical patterns of where arriving aircraft fly on arrival to Stansted Airport.
The maps were produced by the Environmental Research Consultancy Department (ERCD) of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), who are independent consultants.
The two new maps show planes arriving to both ends of the runway, and reflect their patterns and heights on approach. Each map shows arrivals to either end of the runway. This is because an aircraft’s approach depends on whether the wind is in a westerly or easterlydirection.
The maps use actual aircraft tracks for an average week in the summer, our peak period. The tracks are in three different colours, representing the descending height as an aircraft approaches the runway.
