We take our responsibility to the community in which we operate, seriously. We aim to balance the negative impacts that an airport can bring with the economic and social benefits to be gained from having an international gateway at the heart of the local community and the region.
We want to ensure that the community benefits as much as possible from its proximity to London Stansted as a major international airport. We work with the community in schools, education, sport, employment, skills training and other projects that have a real impact on people’s lives.
Over £250,000 was donated to local community projects and initiatives in 2012 through three categories of funding:
Stansted Airport Passenger Community Fund donates money (up to £1000) to local causes within a 20 miles radius of Stansted Airport. The money donated by the committee is raised from passengers' and staff's unwanted foreign currency which is collected in the terminal. Consideration will be given to requests from sports clubs, pre-school nurseries, junior sports clubs, brownies, guides, clubs, elderly and animal charities.
Stansted Airport Community Trust supports capital projects which protect and enhance the social, economic and environmental well being of the community within a 10 miles radius of Stansted Airport.
For more details about this trust and to apply please email or call 01245 231250.
The Stansted Community Fund supports youth, environmental and volunteering projects within a 40 mile radius of Stansted Airport and has a focus specifically on projects linked to schools and education, the environment and employment/skills development. Grant applicants need to demonstrate that they can meet at least one of the following objectives:
- Create learning opportunities for young people and so raise their aspirations
- Help protect the environment
- Break down barriers to employment through skills development
- Support staff active in the community
Due to the separation and sale of Stansted Airport the Stansted Community Fund was terminated on 31 December 2012.
