London Stansted Airport is a key catalyst for economic growth and productivity in the East of England, is the biggest single site employer in the region with over 10,200 people working for 200 on-airport companies. Stansted has more than 150 direct flight connections to international destinations, handles over 200,000 tonnes of cargo a year and is vital for growth in UK trade and investment.
Meet the Buyers
The quick-fire meeting concept of Meet the Buyers enables local firms to pitch their products and services to a group of carefully selected senior buyers with multi-million pound buying requirements.
The 2012 event surpassed all expectations with over 150 delegates from 100 companies meeting 30 buyers from many organisations including facilities provider Amey, Elsenham based construction firm LPL and electricity provider UK Power Networks.

Mark Prisk MP, Minister of State for Business and Enterprise, commented:
I have a firm view that a key driver for the economic recovery of the country will come from the growth generated by SME's. ‘Meet the Buyers’, hosted by London Stansted Airport, is intended to help small local companies secure contracts to supply goods and services to larger organisations. I strongly welcome this initiative from them. Last year's ‘Meet the Buyers’ proved very successful, I am sure that they will be seeking to build on this at the 2012 event.
Uttlesford District Council's Economic Development Officer, Simon Jackson, said:
While the economy remains in a fragile state, there is not a better opportunity to meet quality businesses in such a short space of time.
Sarah Allen from technology firm Green Duck Ltd, a supplier from Bury St Edmunds, said:
Meet the Buyers is an ideal way to showcase your own brand and build effective working relationships with key decision makers from businesses in the region.
A number of procurement events are held each year. In July 2012 over 100 local and regional businesses attended a seminar to understand the business opportunities at the airport and how to take advantage of them. Delegates received information on the supply chain, and how to develop new business ideas with a particular focus on accessing business support and networking opportunities in the region.
A similar event was held in September 2012 in partnership with the Stansted Airport Chamber of Commerce which was attended by almost 50 local businesses. Delegates learnt about the standards required to supply to the airport community and other large organisations in the area. Information was also given on how to access business support available in the region. These events form part of our commitment to ensure that local businesses gain a better understanding of the opportunities that might be available to them at Stansted Airport.
