Stansted Noise Complaints

Monitoring Flight Track and Noise Data

Aircraft Parking At Stansted

The airport monitors and records all flight track and noise data regardless of whether we have received a complaint from a member of the public or not.

If we find that an aircraft has broken Department for Transport (DfT) regulations, the airport will investigate further with the airline concerned.

We have a noise penalty scheme in place; aircraft which exceed the set noise limits are fined. The proceeds from which are going to The Stansted Airport Community Trust Fund, which supports projects within the local community.

In the event of an aircraft flying off track, we will also contact the local Air Traffic Control (ATC) services to see if there was a specific reason for the track deviation.

Investigate a noise disturbance

If you have been disturbed by a specific aircraft, we provide a free self-service investigation tool, WebTrak, which allows you to see details of aircraft movements close to you. WebTrak shows the tracks and heights of all fixed-wing aircraft movements departing from or arriving at London Stansted.

Once you have investigated the disturbance using WebTrak, you also have the option to submit a complaint to the Flight Evaluation Unit (FEU) directly from the system if you are unhappy with any aspect of the flight in question. Please note that there is a 24-hour delay on the aircraft track data provided via WebTrak.

How to use WebTrak to investigate a specific operation

To investigate a specific operation

  • Click on ‘Investigate’ on the bar at the top

  • Click on where to enter your location

  • Click on when to enter the time in question, this will replay operations at this time.

  • Click on the ‘What’, ‘Where’ and ‘When’ tabs and ‘Show Likely Flights’ to see what was passing close to you at that time. Double click on the aircraft on the map to see more details on the flight. The icons at the bottom of the information box give you the option to make a complaint to see further details of the track.
