Why your application may be rejected

As an Authorised Signatory, you are a security control point for MAG. You'll only be approved if you can demonstrate that you will independently verify, justify, and manage ID pass applications safely and correctly.

Your Authorised Signatory application may be rejected if you can't demonstrate suitability, competence, and the ability to apply the MAG Standard correctly. This includes completing checks, verifying applicants, and submitting applications that are accurate and complete.

Most common reasons for rejection

Poor quality submission

The largest number of rejections are because the application has not been properly checked by the Authorised Signatory.

Key application mistakes are:
  • Information on the application not matching information on the documentation supplied
  • Missing documentation, such as ID documents, Criminal Record Check (CRC) certificate
  • Unsigned ID documents
  • Missing information, such as: Employment reference dates, ID document dates
  • Poor understanding and lack of clarity of the role and access requirement

Conflict of interest or poor independence

Your application will be rejected if you can't demonstrate:
  • Impartial decision-making
  • Independence from applicants being sponsored

Signatories must act as an independent control function, not just an admin role.

Failed or incomplete background checks

Your application will be rejected if you don't complete or pass:
  • A 5 year background check
  • Have the correct identity verification
  • Pass a Criminal Record Check

If you're deemed an unsuitable individual (security risk)

Your application will be rejected if you're not considered:
  • A suitable person to hold an Airport ID pass
  • Low risk from an insider threat perspective

Suitability is a core requirement before any application authority is granted.

Lack of knowledge/understanding of the role

You will be rejected as an Authorised Signatory if you can't demonstrate:
  • Understanding of Airport ID pass rules/responsibilities and the MAG Standard
  • Awareness of security and compliance requirements

The role requires a clear understanding of aviation security obligations.

Insufficient authority or position within the organisation

You will be rejected as an Authorised Signatory if you don't have:
  • The appropriate level of seniority or responsibility
  • Authority to make decisions about access and sponsorship

Signatories must be trusted to make risk-based security decisions on behalf of the organisation.

The most common Authorised Signatory suspension or termination reasons

1. Previous non-compliance or audit concerns
Your Authorised Signatory role may be suspended/ terminated if you have:
  • Previously breached Airport ID Pass rules
  • Failed audits or compliance checks
  • Been removed as a signatory before

MAG can remove or refuse signatories where compliance concerns exist.

2. Evidence of poor application practices
Your Authorised Signatory role may be suspended/ terminated if you continually:

  • Submit applications without proper checks
  • Submit applications that are incomplete or inaccurate

Signatories must personally verify and take responsibility for applications.

3. Failure to cooperate with audits or investigations
Your Authorised Signatory role may be suspended/ terminated if you do not:

  • Support ID Centre audits
  • Provide information when requested

Lack of cooperation can result in rejection or removal from the role.
