Checking-in

Your guide to a smooth check-in

Have your documents ready

Before you arrive at London Stansted Airport, make sure you have your valid passport (and visa where necessary) ready for check-in. Many authorities require a passport that's valid for at least six months from your travel date. If you need help or advice, visit the UK passport website.

On a domestic flight?

You'll still need to show appropriate photo identification - check with your airline which forms they accept.

Check-in desks

If you haven't checked in online, look out for our helpful information screens when you arrive at the airport. They'll show you which desks you need.
Once you've checked in, we recommend going straight through Security. This gives you plenty of time to relax before your flight and enjoy shops and restaurants.

Check-in opening times

Airlines open their check-in desks at different times, so check yours below:
  • Emirates: four hours before departure
  • Jet2 / TUI / Thomas Cook / PLAY / AJet: three hours before departure

Online check-in

Online check-in is quick and easy, and can be done from the comfort of your own home. Simply download your boarding passes to your phone or print them out. Check with your airline that the airport you're returning from accepts mobile boarding passes.

When you arrive at the airport, just check in your luggage. If you're traveling with hand baggage only, you can go straight through to Security.

Twilight bag drop

Imagine turning up for your flight and walking straight through to security. You can do exactly that with the handy Twilight bag drop service offered by some airlines. This service allows you to check in your bags in advance, often the evening before your flight.

Only select airlines offer this service, and there may be restrictions on when you can drop off your luggage. Check with your airline for specific guidelines, including cut-off times and any size or weight limitations for bags.

For more information about Twilight bag drop please contact your airline directly.
