The variety of hotels that Ibiza throws up reflects the diversity of the island when it comes to the sort of trip you wish to enjoy there, whether it’s boutique accommodation in town, beachside options or rural agrotourism offerings you're after. Sample the relaxed vibes of the island’s quieter areas with an agrotourism hideaway, with the peaceful Agroturismo Atzaro highly recommended. Head to the Old Town for boutique hotels such as the luxurious Mirador de Dalt Vila (Placa d’Españya 4), or lower priced options like the Hotel Es Vivé (Calle Carlos Roman Ferrer 8). Position yourself right in the heart of the party at the Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel (Platja d'en Bossa 1), an adult-only resort that offers rooms right beside where the pool parties are held.

The Old Town is a bustling little shopping centre, complete with quirky independent shops, fashion boutiques and nightclub merchandise outlets. Check out Beautiful Creatures (Calle de la Virgen 11) for some stylish ideas, while every Wednesday from April to October in Es Canar the Hippy Market (Avenida Punta Arabí) sets up shop. Running since 1973, the market is great for a thorough browse that can lead to excellent bargains on unique gear, all to the soundtrack of musicians performing in the streets. Head to the Casi Todo auction house in Santa Gertrudis and get bidding on the antiques that go under the hammer.

Ibiza is equipped with plenty of excellent places to eat, taking advantage of its plentiful supply of seafood and combining it with international influences, and locally sourced fresh produce. The Old Town throws up an excellent atmosphere for a meal out, with numerous restaurants spilling out onto the tight cobbled streets. Popular among locals is La Torreta (Plaça de la Vila 10). Chiringuitos, or beach restaurants, take on a multitude of guises from tiny shacks to upmarket haunts. The Fish Shack (Talamanca) serves excellent seafood that’s both cheap and authentic, while El Chiringuito (Playa Es Cavallet) is a somewhat more upscale option. For fantastic vistas of the Old Town and a lively ambience, splash out at Lio (Paseo Juan Carlos I) and enjoy the hedonistic entertainment.

Ibiza Carnival

February

February is a lively month in Ibiza thanks to the carnival events that spring up in various towns on the island. Ibiza Town’s parade is a real highlight, where you can join in with the locals as they sing and dance their way along the streets.

Good Friday Processions

March/April

Somewhat sombre yet thoroughly engrossing, the processions of Good Friday take place all around the island, but those in Santa Eulalia del Río and Ibiza Town are perhaps the most notable. Members of various brotherhoods don conical hats and coloured capes as the parades slowly amble through the streets.

Ibiza Medieval Festival

May

This three-day celebration of all things medieval offers the chance to sample food from the Middle Ages as you jostle alongside jesters and knights in an apparent time warp.

Ibiza Jazz Festival

August

Jazz encompasses many different styles, and while it may not be the music of choice for many who head to Ibiza, the island still tips its proverbial hat to the genre through this festival, welcoming local and international artists to venues in the Old Town.

Radio 1 Weekend

August

This renowned event sees world-famous DJs, club performers and the crème-de-la-crème of the BBC’s Radio 1 spin the tunes at some of Ibiza’s biggest clubs, as the partying never stops through the day or night.
