And if you have any questions about Security - even if you’re worried that it might seem a bit silly - please don’t worry, we’re here to help!
Our experts have answered your most frequently asked questions about going through airport Security. They’ve also thrown in a few extra tips so you can prepare in advance and get straight into the holiday mood.
To keep everybody safe, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and a few airlines (e.g. easyJet, Ryanair, Emirates etc.) have created some rules and regulations regarding airport security. It’s our job to help passengers understand and follow the rules to avoid any incidents or worry.
Our Security staff will be there to help you on the day, but it’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with the London Stansted Airport security rules before you get to the airport. That way, you’ll know what you can and can’t pack in your hand baggage and hold luggage to avoid any issues.
There’s a limited liquid allowance on flights, so you’ll need to pack your hand luggage carefully. Sorting this out in the Security queue is one of the top reasons for London Stansted Airport security delays!
The general rules:
All liquids must be 100ml or less
These must be packed in a clear, plastic bag (such as a freezer bag) no bigger than 20cm x 20cm
Place the bag in the Security tray for scanning
It might seem obvious, but airports can be busy places - especially during peak seasons like summer holidays. Giving yourself plenty of time to get through Security will prevent you from feeling rushed or stressed before your flight.
You might need to consider allowing extra time if you’re travelling in a large group or are travelling with young children and have a long journey ahead.
This is the ultimate way to speed up Security! FastTrack gives you exclusive access to the Express Lane. Booking a Fasttrack pass means you can skip the main queues and reach the Stansted Airport shops after security even quicker.
FastTrack tickets start from £7.50 per person
Make sure your passport, boarding pass, and any other important documents are easily accessible. You don’t want to be rummaging around at the bottom of your bag if you’re asked to present them at Security!
If you’re carrying liquid medication in your hand luggage, you may exceed the 100ml limit, but you’ll also need to prove that the medication is yours, such as the prescription or a letter from your doctor.
When you’re deciding what to wear for your journey, layers are useful as they’ll help you keep warm or cool – especially if you’re travelling to a different climate.
But Security can only scan through one layer of clothing, so remove outer layers and accessories and place them in your tray to help keep the queue moving along quickly.
If you’re short on time for whatever reason and are panicking about the queue at Security, try not to worry!
Speak to a member of Security staff. They’ll know exactly how long you’ll need to get to your departure gate, and they have a perspective on how fast the Security line is moving at that moment. We obviously can’t make any promises, but you’re cutting it fine, they will do what they can to help you get to the Departure Gate on time.
