Billund offers a range of hotels from simple stays to more lavish settings, although most accommodation is clean and comfortable. Hotel Legoland (Aastvej 10) is a major draw to families thanks to Billund’s major tourist draw, featuring Lego-themed rooms for the kids and young at heart. A good budget option is the Zleep Hotel (Passager Terminalen 4), which offers close proximity to the airport, while the Brunbjerg Apartments (Almstokvej 20) boasts a relaxed countryside setting that is still only a short drive from the city centre.

There is a huge selection of Lego-related toys, souvenirs and clothing available inside Legoland. Billund itself does have some shops, but a trip approximately 30km east to Vejle throws up a more varied retail experience. This city has grown from being a quiet market town into a busy urban hub, with a pedestrianised shopping area that is great for a stroll and a browse. If you do go there, be sure to visit the city’s iconic windmill. The Vorbasse Market takes place in July, and amongst other entertainment features a myriad of stalls, travelling fairs and pet breeders.

While hardly professing to be a leading luminary of the culinary world, Billund is nonetheless equipped with a number of decent places to dine. The pizza and ice cream available at Ristorante il Bambino (Ellehammers Alle 3) makes it an ideal haunt for families with kids, while Legoland is naturally brimming with plenty of child-friendly eateries, such as the Polar Pizza & Pasta diner next to Penguin Bay, the Knights’ Table grill, and Wild West flavours in the Saloon. Certain hotels offer good restaurants under their roofs, including the Hotel Propellen (Nordmarksvej 3), which boasts Restaurant Ruth, Restaurant Ludwig and Restaurant Pejsestuen. Elsewhere, there are many more options for a meal out in Vejle.
